Information for Tenants & Service Users

The Sky's the Limit

Background

PRHA is committed to increasing participation and life choices for its service users.

In November 2006 PRHA launched an exciting new project 'The Sky's the Limit'. The project is led by service users and staff. Its aim is to increase Engagement, Training & Employment (ETE) opportunities for all of our service users.

The PRHA Management Board see training as a main focus of PRHA's strategic plan and a priority for the coming years. As a result, PRHA has introduced a vast range of options for service users across the spectrum, from meaningful occupation through to employment. This has included:

  • opening up PRHA employment opportunities and traineeships
  • increasing access to education & skills training
  • expanding the range of activities in supported housing schemes.

The Sky's the Limit handbooks

All new service users are given "The Sky's the Limit" handbooks outlining local resources & how to access them.

The Sky's the Limit notice boards

There are "The Sky's the Limit" notice boards in all of the supported housing projects. Here you will find the latest information on ETE opportunities and developments.

Engagement

A range of activities are arranged to provide the opportunity to have fun, build social skills and confidence.

Training

Training is provided within PRHA and through a number of local providers:

Work related training - This is training that can lead to a qualification which is directly connected to employment. This type of training can improve your chance of getting a job.

Non-work related training - This is training you are doing for fun or for personal development.

Employment

PRHA aims to ensure that service users are able to move towards employment by helping them to develop skills, knowledge and confidence. For more information on training and skills development available to PRHA service users, please contact the Learning & Development Team, tel:  020 8709 9895.

Voluntary work - This is an opportunity to learn new skills and make a contribution. You do not receive a salary. In most cases you will be paid travel expenses and lunch costs.

Traineeships - This is an opportunity to learn about a job whilst doing the job. It is a formal traineeship, where you agree to work the same hours each week. Trainees currently work at PRHA Central Office in the Reception and Finance Teams, and in some projects. As well as gaining work experience, you will receive training - for example in IT skills. In most cases you will be paid lunch costs and travel expenses. In some cases, you may also receive a recognised qualification at the end of your training.

For more information about volunteering & trainee opportunities, and an application form, please contact the Specialist Services team on tel:  020 7920 7328. As a volunteer or trainee, we ask you to agree to a regular time commitment - for example attending the same days and hours each week. A CRB check (Criminal Records Bureau) will be required for most roles.

Paid Work - You can be helped to identify the type of work you are interested in and how to apply for opportunities.
