How your rent and service charges are made up:

  • Core rent: this element of your charges are taken from our rent plan. These relate to the size of your home, and pay for maintenance of the building.
  • Service Charges: this element relates to costs of sevricing fittings such as fire alarms and lifts and the cost of maintaining any communal areas. We review actual costs incurred annually & use these as the basis for the coming years charges.
  • Personal Service Charges: this relates to catering and food costs if you receive a meals service. Also where PRHA pays fuel or water costs that are related to your own room or flat these are recharged through this element.

Both the rent element and Housing Service Charge element of the charges we make are eligible for housing benefit.
How much you may be entitled to claim from Housing Benefit is dependant on the amount you earn either through other welfare benefits or work. You can get further advice on this from your Housing officer or keyworker.
